Sectors

Three sectors, understood from the inside.

Each one hires differently. Different comparator sets, different salary realities, different reasons a good leader says no.

Sector 01

Technology and SaaS

Enterprise software, SaaS, fintech, data infrastructure and AI. Series A scale-ups through to established firms building out Europe from an existing base.

The commercial leaders who succeed here have usually carried a number through at least one change of model: seats to consumption, direct to partner led, single market to multi market. That is what we look for, and it is rarely on a CV.

Roles we place
VP Sales Chief Revenue Officer VP Marketing VP Customer Success Director RevOps VP Presales Director Partnerships
Speed is the constraint
Good candidates are in three processes. A slow second stage loses them.
Equity is the argument
Base rarely wins the decision. The package story does.
Titles do not transfer
A VP at 40 people and at 4,000 are different jobs.
The mark
Seats to consumption. Direct to partner. One market to ten.
The anatomy of a mandate here
Who has to agree
CEO, CRO and usually the board sponsor. Product has a view too, and it is rarely asked for.
Comparator set
The eight to twelve companies your candidates will also be talking to.
Where they come from
Adjacent categories more often than direct competitors. The best fit is usually one model change away.
What stalls it
A package built for last year, and a second stage that takes three weeks to arrange.

The brief tested against the market before the search begins. Most surprises die in that week.
The mark
Cycles run in years. So does the evidence.
The anatomy of a mandate here
Who has to agree
Managing Director, the engineering lead, and whoever owns the channel. Alignment here is the whole job.
Comparator set
Often family owned or listed groups rather than funded businesses, which changes the package entirely.
Where they come from
The integrator and distributor side as often as manufacturers.
What stalls it
Long notice periods, relocation, and briefs written for a software sales cycle.

Sector 02

Industrial and Automation

Industrial automation, collaborative robotics, industrial software and Industry 4.0. Long sales cycles, technical buyers, and revenue that depends on channel as much as direct.

This is where hiring from software goes wrong most often. A leader who has only sold annual subscriptions rarely survives an eighteen month capital cycle, and the reverse is just as true. It is also the commercial layer no European search boutique has taken seriously, which is why we are building here deliberately rather than opportunistically.

Roles we place
Sales Director VP Sales Europe Head of Channel Director Business Development Head of Applications Marketing Director
Technical credibility first
Engineers decide. A leader who cannot hold that room does not sell.
Channel is the multiplier
Distributor and integrator relationships take years to build.
Language matters more
German and Nordic buyers still expect to be sold to in their own language.
Every firm claims to know your sector. We show you the Market Map before you commit.
Sector 03

Growth and Scale-up

Funded businesses, typically Series A to D, building a commercial team for the first time or rebuilding one that did not scale.

Here the brief moves fastest. The role written in January is often not the role needed in March.

Roles we place
First commercial hire VP Sales Chief Revenue Officer Head of Demand Generation Country Manager Head of Customer Success
Stage fit beats pedigree
A great operator from a large business often cannot build from nothing.
The board is a stakeholder
Investor expectations belong in the brief, not in the final interview.
One hire, several markets
Often the appointment has to work across countries from day one.
The mark
Every step up is a different job with the same title.
The anatomy of a mandate here
Who has to agree
Founder, board and lead investor. Investor expectations belong in the brief, not the final interview.
Comparator set
Other funded businesses at the same stage, not the large firms on the founder wish list.
Where they come from
Operators who have built once already, usually a level below their current title.
What stalls it
A role that changes shape mid search, and equity nobody has modelled properly.

“The profile we were looking for was quite unique. In the end, we had a tough time choosing among four finalists. I don’t believe we would have found any of the finalists on our own, or been provided the Animate framework to make the best decision with a modest amount of effort.”

Outside these three

If your sector is not here, we will tell you.

We hold a genuine view in three sectors and no view at all in the rest. If a search sits outside them we would rather say so than learn your market at your expense.

Bring the brief as it stands. Rough is fine. Testing it is the point.
